When we learned that the Micro/Mini Car World Meet 2010 was going to be held in Crystal Lake, Illinois - and on my birthday at that - we immediately made plans to attend. And, if we were going to attend, we were going to travel driving the Metropolitan. Since we had a vendor who wished to sell Vroomers at the event, we agreed to deliver them to him - and what better way to do that then by pulling a Dewdrop Trailer . SO, on August 19 we ventured forth. A quick gas stop and we were on our way!
We set a leisurely pace and made it without problems to our first stop, Sodus, Michigan.

We had a lovely visit with family; and went to Silver Beach in St. Joseph to enjoy ice cream and ride the carousel. (Subject for another entry.). Then, Friday morning we were on the road again. The day was bright and clear ... and HOT. We weren't even out of Michigan yet when we hear BANG from the passenger side of the car. We looked at each other, and Mark steered for the shoulder. Yep, we had a blown tire. Fast as anything Mark had the tools out, the trailer unhooked, the car jacked up, the tire off, the spare on and we were on our way again. Being a wise wife, I kept my mouth shut and my camera in my pocket until he grinned at me and said "You're missing a lot of great photo opportunities." Out came the camera!

In no time flat (pun intended) we were on our way. Great job Mark! We took a well deserved stop at a toll plaza and decided to change our route. Some quick consultations with the atlas and we were on our way again.

Did I mention it was HOT? We took 14 into Crystal Lake and at 5:00 pm the temp signs were all reading 90 - 94 degrees and it was overcast. Air conditioning never felt so good when we reached the hotel! We made it to Crystal Lake safely. We can't wait for Saturday - the SHOW!
....to be continued

ELVIS IS IN THE PARK

Saturday, July 10, 2010 found us in Ypsilanti, Michigan taking part in Elvisfest. We've never attended this event before, so when the Mitten Mets, one of the car clubs we belong to, sent out a flyer about attending as a club, we were game for the adventure. We arrived and found a lovely spot by a tree. It was wonderful seeing some of our fellow car club members. The weather was gorgeous all day. There were two car clubs there, with a nice array of cars for people to admire. The classic cars were parked at the back of the field, far away from the stage, so many of the attendees never made it back to see our cars. We could hear the music though and the stage was a short walk away to watch as one Elivs impersonator after another entertained us.
The crowd was smaller than I expected for this two day event. It did start getting bigger as the day went on. I imagine it got busier in the evening. Many of the impersonators were quite good. We saw some Elvis impersonator wanna-bes walking around with their black hair and sideburns. No beehive ladies though - I was disappointed! There was the most adorable group of women who arrived together. They were wearing matching shirts and for many of the performances they were up next to the stage. Groupies! I want to be just like them when I grow up. <grin>

I didn't wear my Blue Suede Shoes - just my Nash Metropolitan inspired classic car slippers. They worked though! All in all, a great day.

Two months late ... but our new designs are here!
We are EXCITED to introduce... Bubblecar Slippers (Inspired by that classic microcar, the Isetta) available in either blue/white or red/white.

CANNED HAM vintage travel trailer slippers (inspired by the Shasta and other classics from the 1950's and 60's) availble in either pink/white or turquoise/white.

and... the Robot Slipper designed as a fund-raiser for the FIRST Robotics Team #67, Heroes of Tomorrow (HOT Team)

We're celebrating with FREE SHIPPING in the USA and Canada for the month of July. <happy dance!>

Logan wore Vroomers Robot slippers in the Parade. Sale of these slippers supports the HOT Team.

Team Huron Valley Special Olympics was looking great in the parade!
She is selling her little Met – and for a great price. I hope Denice purchases another classic car to replace her Met. If you’re in the Denver area, and looking for real estate, give her a call. She needs to buy a new car! (Disclaimer: I do not know Denice, I just feel very bad for her, and her little Metro.)

Everyone from our 1958 AMC (Nash) Metropolitan to a 1949 Packard to a nifty Citroen made an appearance.

The show has been rescheduled to September 26th. We'll be there, but I think this Orphan Car Show will go down as one of my favorites.
YAHOO!
Unexpected wins make them even more sweet. As hard as it is to win a FIRST Robotics World Championship, it's even harder to do it two years in a row. Despite fierce competition, an extremely tough division and an amazing defensive robot on the other alliance, HOT Team showed why they are World Champions and with their alliance of Team #294 Beach City Robotics (Redondo Beach, California) and Team #177 Bobcat Robotics (S. Winsor, CT) pulled off a tremendous win.
Our congratulations to the HOT Team. Our congratulations to all the teams that made it to the World Championships in Atlanta.
We'll see you next year in St. Louis, Missouri!
Reminder - our Robot Slippers are a fund-raiser for the HOT Team. Almost 1/3 of the price of each pair goes to the HOT Team. We can also work with other teams if they'd like to explore a unique fund-raising opportunity for their team.
